TechTorget is based on an idea and a realization in the legal industry that it is difficult to stay informed and updated about IT in general and about which IT solutions specifically are relevant in relation to practical and qualitative improvement of work processes in the various legal businesses.

TechTorget was founded to address a key challenge in the legal industry: staying informed about IT developments and identifying which IT solutions can effectively enhance work processes in legal practices. Our goal is to ensure that proven, high-quality technology solutions that streamline and improve lawyers’ daily work are made easily accessible to Nordic law firms, in-house legal teams, and their employees.

The Norwegian Bar Association recognized this need and, in discussions with Erik Ødegaard and Peter van Dam, supported the initiative to organize TechTorget. Since 2019, several annual TechTorget events have been held in Oslo. Building on this success TechTorget went to Denmark and a second event will take place in Copenhagen in October 2025, in collaboration with Copenhagen Legal Tech, led by Dorte Carlsson. Most recently, TechTorget has established a partnership with VQ Legal (Helena Hallgarn) to launch TechTorget in Sweden.

Further the mission is to assist all law firms and practices, in addition to the bigger firms and departments, this is particularly small and medium-sized ones, in navigating the diverse and wide range of IT solutions available in the market.

Through our network and collaborations in the various Nordic countries, we continue to support the legal community in adopting technology that enhances efficiency, quality, and profitability.

Founders

Peter van Dam

Peter was responsible for implementing iManage at many law firms in Norway when he was country manager for IRIS. Peter's current position is Chief Digital Officer at Simonsen Vogt Wiig. He also is strategic consultant for Gyldendal Rettsdata.

Erik Ødegaard

Erik Ødegaard has extensive experience from the legal industry. Most recently he was managing director at Berngaard. Before that he was Adm. Dir. in Føyen Torkildsen and has had positions at Schjødt and Sands.

Dorte Carlsson

Dorte Carlsson is co-founder and manager of the organization Copenhagen Legal Tech. She has a law degree, is a designer and gamemaster. Dorte has always worked at the intersection of law and technology and the rest of the industry, because she wants to help redesign the legal industry to make it a more enjoyable place to be. Dorte has experience from roles such as CPO in a legal information company and membership manager in the Danish Bar Association.

Helena Hallgarn

Helena Hallgarn is a pioneer in Scandinavian legal technology, co-founding Virtual Intelligence VQ in 2010. With over 20 years of experience, she has developed innovative IT solutions for the legal sector, notably VQ Legal, utilized by 90% of Sweden's top law firms. Helena also serves as an Ambassador for the European Legal Technology Association (ELTA).
